Quebec City is internationally recognized for its history and culture, with Old Quebec as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s also one of the cleanest and safest cities in Canada and has been ranked one of the top three places to live in Canada. We’ll take a look at five things you can do here to explore this wonderful city!
1. See the Parliament Building
Quebec City’s Parliament Building is open to visitors from May to September. Guided tours can be arranged, or you can enjoy the architecture from outside. It was designed in French Renaissance style and is considered an excellent example of early 20th-century federal architecture. For an added bonus, you’ll see a statue of Jacques Cartier, who explored and mapped Canada for France in the 16th century.
2. Visit Le Chateau Frontenac
The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is one of the most photographed hotels in Quebec City and has been welcoming guests since it opened its doors in 1893. Located on the edge of Old Quebec along the St. Lawrence River, it’s a great way to see all of the city from the water. Rooms are a bit pricey but the hotel’s history is well worth it.
3. Visit Place Royale
Place Royale is a park in Old Quebec where you can let your children explore while you enjoy some lunch or a drink at one of the cafes. It’s actually one of several public squares here, but with its fountains, ornate statues and grandiose buildings, it’s clearly one of Quebec City’s most beautiful public spaces. A good place to see what locals do on their lunch break!
4. Visit the Biodome
The Biodome is a great place to visit if you’re looking to learn more about the biodiversity of Quebec and Canada in general. Here, you’ll find an aquarium, a zoo and an underwater chamber! From June to September, it also has temporary exhibits that rotate with the seasons. Your little explorers will love it! And if they head off to explore on their own, that’s OK too…just make sure they come back before dark!
5. Have a meal at Restaurante Coeur du Lait
Coque du Lait is the restaurant where celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Caan and Jonathan Pryce dine out. The restaurant also has a great atmosphere, especially when you’re enjoying your meal. They have great soups and some of the best poutine in Quebec … and they are open for breakfast!
Quebec City is one of the most beautiful places in Canada and the home of several UNESCO World Heritage sites. The city is also an excellent place to find a job, and it’s very safe and clean. So if you’re looking for somewhere to live, and you want to see a bit more than Toronto or Montreal has to offer, then Quebec City could be your new home!
